Loop through Natural Bridge State Park and Red River Gorge in Slade KY.

About an hour south of Morehead Kentucky along the Daniel Boone National Forest lies the Red River Gorge and Natural Bridge. Intersected by the Bert T. Combs Mountain Parkway, this motorcycle campers paradise offers plenty of curvy roads and spectacular scenery. Just south of Slade, KY situated on Route 11 are the Whittleton Campground and the Middle Fork Campground. Whittleton is geared more toward tent camping and Middle Fork is more for RV. Both welcome motorcycles, but for my money I prefer Whittleton. If you require a mattress and amenities, the Natural Bridge State Resort Lodge is basically across the street from Whittleton Campground and offers motorlodge quality rooms. They also have a generous all you can eat buffet for about 12 bucks featuring delicious fried catfish. Make sure to order up an Ale 81 with dinner. It's like a Kentucky version of Mountain Dew made with real sugar. The Gorge and Natural Bridge are extremely popular with rock climbers; notice the parking lot of Miguel's Pizza will be filled with tents for climbers only, they spill over in warm weather which can make finding a campsite on the spur of the moment difficult. ReserveAmerica.com takes online reservations for all KY State Parks. If you happen to ignore this advice, head up Route 15 towards Campton to Koomer Ridge, a nice private campground. If you get shut out there head up North to Zilpo and Cave Run lake, DO NOT stay at the sleazy dive motels to the west. They have a very Batesian feel to them.
